I'm going to be the ignorant American here, being that this WC is the first that I've watched intently. Has diving always been this widespread in soccer? It seemed like just a part of the game to dive, and do it on EVERY SINGLE PLAY in which contact was involved. Occasionally the ref would notice, but 9 times out of 10 a foul was automatic, slowing games to a crawl...(next post)

waited for EMTs to carry him off on a stretcher, get off the court, stand up miraculously healed, and sub back in instantly after every instance in which contact was initiated, the uproar that followed would drive the player to retire and hide in fear of his life for years. Someone more knowledgeable please either defend this part of the game or explain to me where I'm getting it wrong.

Diving sucked so much life out of every match in the cup, and I feel is one of the major reasons Americans don't hold the game in the same light as the rest of the world. I hate to compare it to american sports, but if in say, basketball, a player fell to the floor, held his leg in searing pain...(next post)

ok this vid is obviously not real and quite funny, BUT diving really was this bad at so many points in the cup.
