Description: Legendary innovator, UK 'tabletop' guitarist Keith Rowe has explored the guitar as a primary source of pure sound, extending it with an array of objects and bric-a-brac, for more than 30 years. Keith Rowe is probably best known for his groundbreaking work with AMM and the SCRATCH ORCHESTRA. "Twanging ruler-shaped objects set off a cartoon style jiggling tremolo, a block of foam causes mountainous scuffling booms...A one man sound lab and dub studio formed out of a corner hardware shop.."[The Wire June 1999] |

julianindica ::: Favorites 2007-12-07 06:24:41 I interviewed Keith Rowe. We talked for an hour, then he demonstrated his technique for me and my mates. He laid the guitar flat, turned the volume up to blitzkreig volume, put a butter knife in between the strings and then very lightly TAPPED it. The reverberations filled the room in the most mesmeric way, echoing until the sound seemed to be coming from everywhere. Me and my mates all 'got it' at that point. Rowe just smiled. __________________________________________________
melvinbrains ::: Favorites 2007-11-26 23:17:40 This is really cool stuff. Even if you don't like what he does, it is still interesting to watch, like a mad scientist of sound. __________________________________________________
CrowsfeetMcBartrash ::: Favorites 2007-11-04 18:31:17 this is the most ridiculous shit i have ever seen being passed of as music __________________________________________________
defdeezy ::: Favorites 2007-11-01 23:37:22 i guess you only listen to music narcissistically and for your own emotional benefit. that is totally okay, of course. __________________________________________________
TheTravelingThumb ::: Favorites 2007-10-29 21:22:35 Attended a Keith Rowe performance in Philadelphia last week and had the pleasure of actually speaking with Mr. Rowe. He is an absolute artist (and I don't mean that in a glad-handing way) who creates amazing aural paintings with his table of electric guitar and assorted devices. As a neophyte Rowe fan, seeing what he was doing made the performance all the more interesting for me. I plan on becoming a Rowe fanatic as I accumulate more of his CDs. Bravo Keith Rowe! __________________________________________________
Majesticon ::: Favorites 2007-10-26 02:32:25 I'm going to see him because he's "legendary", but I don't get anything from this really. It's totally detached sound exploration that is too analytical and post-modern for my tastes. __________________________________________________

rockermang ::: Favorites 2007-08-26 21:23:03 Can you do it on a DD-5 ? __________________________________________________
jazzmaster3000 ::: Favorites 2007-08-23 13:51:07 If anyone has a boss dd-6 delay pedal and wants the settings for an effect that I can only describe as "inharmonic resonance" , let me know. The sound is reminiscent of a low piano string being scraped by a scrap of metal. __________________________________________________ |
